Students in the classroom

At many schools, visual arts, dance, physical education, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and music) are considered extra or special. At College View, we believe these courses are essential to a comprehensive education for the whole child. Movement and art enhance brain function and improve our mental health. These classes help to boost confidence and make us feel more engaged and resilient.

At College View, students rotate through each of these Essentials classes throughout the school year. They are standards-based and offer hands-on opportunities for students to extend their core content knowledge. The Essentials Team organizes integrated arts and cultural events on Fridays during “Dog Park Day.” We celebrate sporting events like March Madness, incorporate literacy with Book Relays, and honor celebrations such as Dia de los Muertos or the Lunar New Year, just to name a few.
